Costs of racing, and rewards for athlete and sponsor.

Motorcycle racing is a sport that has great rewards for young racers. The impact goes far beyond the physical aspects of fitness and conditioning into emotional and mental fitness as well. A young racer builds discipline and confidence which are vital to success not only in winning races, but in the academic world and in the business world as well. The poise and character built in training for racing is the same poise and character you probably see in your most valuable employees and business partners. A young athlete who is concerned about piloting a racing bike around a track at 160 miles per hour or navigating a motorcross bike around a difficult course cannot be involved in drugs or anything else that might hinder performance because their sharpness and concentration are vital to not only winning but their safety as well.

Racing gives these kids a positive, healthy, and fun activity in which to spend their time but is a very costly pursuit. A 125 cc Grand Prix racing motorcycle can cost from $10,000 to $100,000. Tires can cost $400 or more per set and need to be replaced almost every race weekend. Fuel for a race weekend can cost upwards of $150. Travel and lodging for the racer and his or her motorcycle can cost a few hundred to a few thousand dollars per race depending on where the race is located and the level of accommodation. To be competitive, motors need to be rebuilt after most race weekends and cost at least $200 to rebuild. Therefore in a 10 race series the cost of a successful campaign will easily top $30,000 and a wining team may spend more than double that cost.

Not all classes of racing are the same cost. A 250 cc GP racing bike will cost upwards of $50,000 to campaign for a 10 race series and the minis are much cheaper. International open class Moto GP campaigns can cost from $5 million and up. These kids sponsored by Adopt a Kid Racer are champions in their own right but with your support, there is no limit to the level that these athletes can reach.

The following page outlines some sponsorship package suggestions but your tax deductible contribution at any level is welcomed and greatly appreciated. Please take the time to consider what you can do for these deserving kids and dig deep to help out as much as possible. Sponsors at the 1/2 Season level and up will have first right of refusal to sponsor the racers as they advance to higher and more prestigious levels in the racing world.
